Bulawayo Central Church

Also known as Bulawayo Central.

A church photographed in about 2005 under the name 'Bulawayo Central Church'; its denomination and history are still to be confirmed.

The photographs in this set date from about 2005 and were captioned simply “Bulawayo Central Church.” They show one of the most distinctive church roofs in the city, and we would like to know more about the church behind it.

What the photographs show

The main building is a large hall under a steep A-shaped roof of red-brown sheeting that comes down almost to the ground. The front gable is face brick, with tall, narrow window slits. Lower wings with ordinary windows run along each side. A row of white diagonal props stands along the side wall, bracing the great roof. The church stands in open lawn, with trees behind it.

Two of the photographs show a smaller face-brick building with a steep gabled roof and an arched entrance, standing on a tarred forecourt. It may be a chapel, an entrance porch or a separate hall on the same site.

What we don’t know yet

If you know this church, please tell us its story. We would also love to see photographs of the inside and of the church in earlier years.
