Southwold

Named by its estate developers, who gave its streets the names of Cotswold villages and towns.

Southwold was named by the developers who laid it out. Like its neighbour Montrose, its streets carry the names of villages and towns in the Cotswolds.

A name borrowed

There is a Southwold in England, but it is on the Suffolk coast, not in the Cotswolds. The same one-line explanation is given for Southwold and for Montrose, which may mean it was never examined closely for either.

What we don’t know yet

Who developed Southwold, and when? Tell us if you know, or if you grew up there.
